When customers first approach us for a quote for a new driveway, what many customers don’t consider is the cost of a new drop kerb if needed and required.
You’ll find a drop kerb will provide a smooth, safe passage to your driveway from the outside road.
But before you even consider installing a new drop kerb you should take the following steps with your local council first, find out if planning permission is needed, apply for the planning permission, pay the application fee to the council and then find an approved contractor. Don’t worry on the last step, we can carry out the work for you.
There are two different drop kerbs that can be installed, which do differ in process and cost, the first is installing a new drop kerb so that a vehicle can cross onto your property and the second option is to widen a current drop kerb.
Prices do differ on a range of factors depending on the number of kerbs needed to be dropped, the location of the drop kerb, close by services and utilities and the overall size of the job to hand.
Location – We’ve found that each council has its own pricing structure and there isn’t a cost that fits all, planning permission can range from £50 to £400 some councils also charge a street work license fee which is on average £430.
Utilities and Services – Extra costs can be unforeseen such as external companies like BT Open Reach coming out to replace or make alterations in order for you to install a drop kerb, this will come at an additional cost.
Number of kerbs – It goes without saying the number of kerbs needed to be replaced affects the overall cost. Two kerbs for your drop kerb will be more than four as materials and labour increases.
Additional Costs
Once fully installed you may come across some extra costs that include, council inspection and moving of street furniture.
You’ll expect to pay around £200 for a council inspection and the movement of street furniture can change dramatically for example the movement of a manhole maybe £100 but the movement of a lamppost could see an additional cost of £1,200.
